FOOD:

Whole30 Sober (1)

In this NYE edition, we’re talking all things liquid. Whether or not you choose to imbibe for the holiday, it’s important to consider the first 12 hours of the day. Your night is only going to be as strong as your day-time strategies.

  1. I recommend starting your day with a protein-rich and greens laden dish. Most of my weekends are jam-packed. My go-to? Sauteed cruciferous mix with eggs and the occasional chicken sausage. See my story for details! The fiber-rich veggies, protein and fat keep me going for at least 4 hours when I don’t have time to spare.
  2. Get a sweat in. Especially, if you’re remaining sober. Yes, it’s good for your body. Yes, it’s important for your mind. But today, specifically, it’s good for your sanity. It’s going to take more than a few exercise-induced endorphins to tolerate your boozy friends.
  3. Drink water like it’s going out of style. With every meal, between meals, in the car, with a fox, in a box, and definitely between each drink. Alcohol dehydrates the body.

These four strategies apply specifically to my sober crew. I highly recommend “Confidence & Subject Changes!”

Now, Mocktail time! These delicious drinks were featured on Whole30’s Instagram today if you want to see them in action. They are all quick, simple & can be dressed up as you see fit. I taste-tested them all. The Sassy Ginger is definitely my favorite. Alas, if I only had red hair.

Sassy Ginger

  • 4 oz lemon ginger mineral water
  • 4 oz GT’s gingerade kombucha
  • ½ juiced orange and it’s peel
  • 4-5 ice cubes

Berry Spritz

  • 3-4 raspberries
  • 4 oz GT’s Trilogy kombucha
  • 1 oz coconut water
  • 3 oz infused mineral water
  • 4 ice cubes

The Bubbly

  • 6 oz mineral water
  • ½ juiced orange and it’s peel
  • 2 mint sprigs, crushed with orange peel
  • 4 ice cubes

Green Tea-ki

  • 2 green tea bags brewed in 8 oz of boiling water. Allow time to cool.
  • 1 orange slice
  • 4 oz mineral water
  • 3 ice cubes

FAITH:

For we are God’s masterpiece… (Eph. 2:10)

As we roll into the new year, it’s important to remember that resolutions are not just reserved for January. Nor, are they required. We continue to grow, excel, change daily. Ignore the Hallmark holiday. Most importantly, know that you are valued and worthwhile whether or not you met last year’s goal or improved/even declined in health. The Lord delights in your being and your trying, even if it leads to failure. Continue to work towards your goals. When the world wonders why you haven’t “won” or “succeeded”, He sees your effort and finds beauty in the attempt.
